Green Climate Fund (GCF)

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) was adopted as a financial mechanism of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter adverse effects of climate change.

Several projects are under the active consideration of MoEF&CC, GoI for funding under Green Climate Fund for both adaptation and mitigation options. Approval for the project titled “Protection and Restoration of Appa and Kosawari Islands of Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu” proposed by the Department of Environment at a cost of Rs. 98.00 crores is awaited. The Detailed Project Report is under preparation for the project titled “Improved resilience of Urban Ecosystems through targeted restoration of Wetlands” proposed by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department at a cost of Rs.147.00 crores and is being sent to MoEF&CC, GoI shortly for the approval.
